Work with Snakebird Designs
Everything I do starts with place and the specific ecology, materials, and community within it. Below is a guide to the kinds of work I take on, but I'm equally interested in collaborations and commissions that don't fit neatly into any category. If you're working on something that needs a multi-species and regenerative design perspective, get in touch!
Made from place, for place
I start by asking what a specific place and its species actually need, then design to that. Materials used are ethically sourced from the local ecology, and techniques used are grounded in current research on human-nature connectedness.
Depending on the needs of both people and place, the outputs could be anything from handmade habitat structures, art objects or simply shifted perspectives and new connections.
Nature-Connectedness as Foundation
Australia’s national survey on Nature Connection has shown that nature connection is as important as income in determining life satisfaction, and that people with the highest level of nature connectedness are 72 times more likely to engage in pro-environmental behaviours than those with the lowest levels of nature connectedness.
The Five Pathways Framework identifies appreciating beauty, engaging the senses, connecting emotionally, finding meaning and metaphor and caring for nature as the best ways for people to connect with nature.
My process involves designing experiences that are grounded in these five pathways, using tactile crafting methods and incorporating time for reflection and sharing.

Habitat Making & Ecological Commissions

These structures are designed around the specific needs of the species of a place, and are beautiful enough to want in any garden, park, or waterway.
Available as standalone commissions or as part of a workshop program.
Art Objects & Exhibitions
Objects that foreground more-than-human perspectives and tell stories of place. Available for commission, exhibition, or collaboration.
Writing & Consultation
Sharing regenerative design concepts with broader audiences through articles, illustrated posts, and speaking. Available for publications, panels, and strategy conversations that need a biocentric perspective
